Edinburgh Hotels helping to promote green business tourism
An Ecological Internet Supporter
Edinburgh has a reputation within the UK for progressive action on the
environment and Edinburgh hotels
are playing their part in this forward thinking. The Best Western Bruntsfield
Hotel in Edinburgh recognises that we must operate our business with care and
consideration both within our local environment and in the wider environment.
We have received a silver award from Edinburgh Council in the Keep Edinburgh
Clean scheme. We also achieved the Silver standard in the Green Business Tourism
Scheme in 2002 and since then have maintained this standard for operating the
business in an environmentally responsible way.
Edinburgh is one of Europe's top tourist destinations, attracting more than 13
million visitors a year, and is the second most visited tourist destination in
the UK, after London. Described as the Athens of the North,
Edinburgh is also
a world heritage city. This makes
Edinburgh accommodation difficult to find during peak tourist seasons.
The city’s main attractions include Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile, The Palace
of Holyroodhouse, and the Royal Yacht Britannia. Tourists from all over the
world are attracted to Scotland’s capital city all year round, with the
population peaking during August as visitors seek
Festival
accommodation, and also during the Winter holidays as more and more people
are spending the
New Year in
Edinburgh.
Edinburgh’s cultural attractions of theatres, museums and art galleries are all
very popular with tourists. A wide range of shopping is available in specialist
stores and high quality boutiques, and only a short distance from the hotel.
The Bruntsfield is also one of the best hotels in Edinburgh for hosting weddings
and special occasions such as an anniversary, birthday or christenings.
For lovers of food and fine dining, the hotel also boasts one of the most
fashionable
Edinburgh restaurants with the recently opened Bisque Bar and Brasserie.
Bisque has received an AA rosette for food and service quality and has received
3 medallions from Scotland's national food grading company. Bisque is fast
becoming one of the best known
restaurants in
Edinburgh.
The Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel takes its environmental
responsibilities very seriously. Since receiving the Silver Standard in green
business tourism, the Bruntsfield Hotel has formed an Energy Committee which
investigates ways to reduce energy and wastage from hotel operations and to
increase recycling. We recycle paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, electric light
bulbs, fabrics, cooking oils and metal cans. Guests at our
Edinburgh hotel are encouraged to
recycle by placing recycling containers in public areas, and we use fair trade
beverage produce in the bars and restaurant.
All hotel bedrooms are fully insulated and have individual heating
controls to reduce excess energy use and have energy switches to prevent
appliances being left on when the room is vacant. We have installed hundreds of
energy saving light bulbs and all heating and hot water appliances are regularly
maintained and set at optimum comfort and energy consumption levels.
