After having spent three years as a health consultant in the Sangrur district
of Punjab, Peter Luff is back. The director of Action for A Global Climate
Community is here to help build up opinion in favour of India coming together
with the EU to find ways of tackling global warming.
"Global warming is the biggest threat - bigger than terrorism," says Luff. "If
measures are not taken now, we are looking at a future where Bangladesh may be
under water or that Britain may freeze," he warns.
He is here to attend a conference on climate change. "Our proposal is that every
single person has a right to emission of carbon. It is not fair for the
developed countries to have reaped the economic benefits of industrialisation
and polluted the atmosphere in the bargain, to now expect the developing and
poor countries to forgo industrialisation to keep carbon emissions in check," he
said.
