ALERT! Copenhagen (and You) Must Cut Carbon Emissions by at Least 10% During 2010
By Ecological Internet's Climate Ark Climate Change Portal
Urge all Earth's citizens and tribes to pursue a 10:10 pledge, protect and restore all old forests, and pursue other ambitious, short-term actions -- both personally and at Copenhagen -- as a start to avert abrupt climate change and global ecological collapse. Stewardship Revolution starts here as global ecological sustainability depends upon dramatically reducing greenhouse emissions in the short term. TAKE ACTION!

Dear E.I., you are not alone!!! Have you noticed you're not the only David fighting the Golioth of climate change: Avaaz is one,the 10:10 Campaign, Ed's Pledge, Operation Noah, CEL (Christian Ecology Link), and Cornwall's 'Footsteps to Copenhagen' are some of the others. Let's acknowledge and encourage one another (not just shout in the dark alone).

Actually, the only viable solution is radical birth control.
Rewarded, or even enforced.

Great post Glen.
As the poster below me said, it is great to compliment, collaborate and empower one another.
A movement such as the 10:10 is a thing of beauty. They are getting a tremendous response from all walks of people including celebreties, movie stars, big politicians and corporate heads. Getting a crowd aboard this ship is great. We really can make a difference fast as a people working together.
Reducing personal emissions by 10% in 1 year is great.
I have tallied my emissions reduction over the past 4 years (I lived as an average american does) and I probably have reduced my emissions 3/4 to 4/5.
So if we just continue to reduce our emissions by 3-4 times over the course of the coming 4-5 years, we will be doing very well as a planet, and on a path for resolving the greatest issues we face. We would also feel better as a people.
I feel much better and have a much better attitude by helping the earth and us as a people. I see true benefits by us getting together as best we can to really make some big progress. I think if we think that the future will be bad or not enjoyable are just leading ourselves down a pathway in which we will be that way.
If we are to cultivate inspiring visions and goals for ourselves and our communities, we will immidiately enhance our progress getting there.
I see true hope for our planet. We have all the potential we need, which means all the tools, resources, support, and whatever we may need on our way towards a better future, a future we truely have no idea will be about. My faith is believing the unknown is on our side. So let's go into the unknwon with a strength and character that allows us to take hold of the abundant opportunities for prosperity.
Have a good one all and keep up the great work
Patrick

Saving the planet one step at a time
Have you heard of climate change?
Temperatures are getting higher. Storms are getting worse. Ice is melting and sea levels are rising. Portions of the coast of Bangladesh are likely to go underwater, lost forever. Millions will become homeless. The ability of the earth to sustain people is threatened.
Why is climate change happening?
Because people are burning up fossil fuels (diesel, petrol, natural gas, coal) at such rapid rates that future generations are now threatened.
Is it possible to slow climate change?
Yes, but we cannot continue to waste time. Carbon dioxide levels are rising rapidly. That is where the number 350 comes in. If we can limit CO2 in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million then we can avoid the worst of the harm to come.
Is there anything we can do?
No one person cam stop climate change but everyone contributes something significant. We can slow out own use of fossil fuels by walking and cycling and taking cycle rickshaws rather than using motorized transport. We can reduce our use of electricity. We can avoid, as a nation, burning coal (pure carbon) or selling it to others to burn. We can encourage the government to act to encourage reductions in fuel use and to encourage walking, cycling, and rickshaws.
This will mean making some changes. Fortunately most of those changes are likely to
increase rather than reduce our quality of life. Imagine being able to cycle safely in
Dhaka. Imagine the air being fresh and clean. Imagine children and youth being able to play in side streets. If we move our focus from cars to people, from traveling long
distances to accessing basic needs close to home, we can reduce congestion and all the misery it causes, We can have more time with family and for the other important parts of life.
Remember 350 is not just a number. It is not just an ideal. It is something we can all work to make a reality.

Copenhagen is going to be one of those make-or-break events of the century... unfortunately, it's looking more and more like it's going to fail.

Climate science is being savaged, and the family of humanity intentionally confused, by the pernicious rhetorical shenanigans of arrogant ideological idiots and religious fanatics 'fueled' by obscene amounts of wealth obtained from the most greedy rulers of the world in our time.

I agree with the use of population control as the best option for slowing climate change. Conservation helps, but having few people burning through fossil fuels will help even more. Maybe they could provide tax incentives for couples who don't have children?
