Climate Change, Industry and Over-Consumption

As acceptance of the hard climate change reality increases, global industry and business are coming to terms with their products' and activities' culpability for greenhouse gas emissions. Over past days in the UK several leading industrial leaders urged their government to implement tougher curbs on carbon dioxide emissions [more]. And the insurer Lloyd's of London has warned that the insurance industry may be swept away if urgent actions are not taken to cut emissions. Top Internet companies Microsoft and Google are working to improve their energy efficiency. While such efforts by industry are a start, there needs to be major changes in values and how business is done. The Western lifestyle of over-consumption is inherently unsustainable. Progress on climate change and a whole host of other environmental issues requires cutting frivolous consumption [search] and stressing quality, durability and ecological sustainability for necessary consumption.

IN MY CHILDHOOD I HEARD ONE STORY. STORY GOES LIKE THIS. " ONE FARMER WAS SLEEPING UNDER A TREE, ONE EDUCATED MAN CAME TO HIM AND STRTED DISCUSSION i.e WHY YOU ARE SLEEPING UNDE A TREE , IF YOU WORK HARD YOU WILL GET A GOOD MONEY SO THAT YOU CAN PURCHASE A GOOD HOUSE THEN MARRY A BEAUTIFUL GIRL AND HAVE CHILDREN AND THEN LIVE COMFORTABLY AND SLEEP WELL. THE REPLY CAME FROM FARMER THAT IS WHAT I AM DOING".
I THINK WE ARE DOING SO ON THE NAME OF DEVELOPMENT SHOWING PINK ROSES TO THE COMMON MAN WHICH IS NOT ACHEIVABLE BUT GOING ON PRODUCING CARS BURNING OIL AND PRODUCING POLLUTION. WHY NOT WE SHIFT TO BICYCLE AND BAN ON USE OF AUTOMOBILE RUNNING ON OIL.

I am a consummate environmentalist. Since my wife began talking about "The Revenge of Gaia" and "An Inconvienient Truth" I became frightened that she was overexaggerating.

Now I am realizing that my deeper fear is that she is right and that her enthusiasm will subside.

We are not doing enough!!! and
I vow to start promoting the cause.

I believe the reason for climate change is viewed primarily as the responsibility of the developed world.
