ACTION ALERT: Bush Climate Plea: Confront "An Inconvenient Truth", Lead on Global Warming

Take action now!
President Bush has shown throughout his Presidency little inclination to address looming climate change. Nonetheless, with perhaps only a decade left to fully implement in earnest the policies necessary to avert abrupt, run-away and potentially deadly climate change; his administration remains the greatest obstacle to a coordinated international policy response.
The extent and rapidity of global warming is now so severe that we simply cannot wait for over two and a half years for new American leadership. In order to maximize the likelihood of humanity having adequate time to confront the global warming emergency, all enlightened global citizens simply must confront President Bush and seek to break through his oilman's denial.
Whatever you opinion personally, or in regard to his policies, please let President Bush know the science is clear - and that he must urgently embrace and promote mandatory emission cuts, renewable energy, energy conservation and efficiency, and an end to deforestation. Failure to lead will result in rising temperatures, droughts and floods, melting ice, rising seas, more destructive storms, agricultural failure, vegetation loss and ultimately widespread ecosystem collapse.
This independent alert is timed to coincide with the release of "An Inconvenient Truth", which documents another climate crusader's journey. Please see Al Gore's movie and send this alert.

Scientist's just discovered a significant weakening of what is called the Walker Circulation. This is an im portant wind pattern over the Pacific ocean. This could signal an onset of a permanent El Nino. Which would bring violent Winter Storm's to the U.S. West Coast, devastating drought's to Southeast Asia,Indonesia and Australia. It would also decimate the fishing along the Pacific South American coast. A pandora's box is being opened and were just learning the effect's. Action has to be taken now , we cant wait two and a half year's we might not have it. These effect's will accelerate as we go ahead , as fossil record's show they dont move like a snail . If we dont act now, you might as well take an earlier retirement and enjoy what's left of our normal temp climate. Because it will vanish soon, the fossil record's prove it. The planet cant handle what were doing to it. I dont care what they say, especialy that guy in the White House. Were dealing with a Strong Federal Government linked with the Industrial complex of this country which spell's bad new's for all of us. A past President warned us of this and the aftermath's of their policie's as we are seeing .

I ran across your blog and thought to ask a few questions concerning the subject of Global Warming. Is global warming occurring? Have the forecasts of global warming been confirmed by actual measurements? Are carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels the primary cause of climate change? Can the Earth's temperature be expected to rise between 2.5 and 10.4 degrees Fahrenheit in this century as has been reported?

Al Gore and most others seem to be ignoring what may be a much greater and more immediate danger to Mankind than Global Warming, see

apart from the buzz that surrounds this film and the man behind it, i think america really has to wake up to the global climate issue. when you still have a president who thinks about global warming in a "deep sincere sincerely deep" kind of way, boy is the world doomed!!! peace!

Dear President Bush,
We believe that global warming is a nonpartisan issue affecting the future of all Americans.
We are concerned that when asked if you were likely to see "An Inconvenient Truth," you replied "Doubt it." (AP, May 23, 2006).
We call upon you to put aside whatever personal feelings you have regarding Mr. Gore, and see this film.
The President of the United States has a special responsibility to gather all of the facts about growing dangers to our country, to assure that crucial information is not ignored, and to act decisively to protect the American people.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

"...wide spread ecosystem collapse" can't you do any better than that? Big AL has been using words like "planetary emergency" and "the end of civilization".
The only thing more shameful than this well coordinated disinformation scarefest is the media's willingness to spread the panic unchallenged. I just saw David Letterman rolling his eyes when Tom Brokaw mentioned that some influencial people are still unconvinced. The audience snickered in disdain at the idea that some one would doubt the validity of the "threat to the planet".
Bravo. I should have paid more atention to the "real" issue, media manipulation. Silly me focusing on the science.
I remember the first time I heard "perception is reality" I recoiled and scoffed. Now I see that those old grainy films of Germans spurred by fear into fascist glee and realize that this technique is still quite potent.
All that's left now is to see if the public takes the bait. I have to hand it to you guys I greatly underestimated this whole thing.
I don't mean the slim science that the actual issue should hinge on, but the masterful PR campaign that is just now swinging into high gear. It is a thing of beauty.
Bravo.

Clinton and Gore were in power for 8 years, some of those with a Democrat controlled House and Senate. Can anyone tell us what terrific iniatiatives and leadership they provided re Peak Oil and Global Warming? The SUVs got bigger and worse mileage. The houses got bigger and more energy wasting. More highways and strip malls were built. Walmart got bigger and more powerful and wiped out a lot of smaller competitors (Is it true that Hillary was on the board of Walmart? How much was she paid? did she fight for medical coverage and the unions or not?). The country used more petroleum every year. The 'petroleum addiction' got worse every year. Did they rebuild the train system a la Kunstler's recomendations? Did they tighten up the borders preventing tens of millions more people coming over and using up the resources and causing pollution? (They signed Nafta which wiped out a lot of small Mexican farms and spurred illegal immigration). Were Clinton and Gore out pounding the table to get Americans to drive little cars and turn off the air conditioners and wear sweaters in their cold houses in the winter? Were there huge initiatives for alternative fuels, wind, solar, biomass, coal to gas, etc.? Why not, Peak Oil was known? Gore was in a real position of power and influence and could have done a lot of good and raised awareness about peak oil and climate change. Can anyone remember any kind of leadership they took on this issue when they had the chance? regards
