An increase in global greenhouse gas emissions over the past two years, due almost entirely to the burning of fossil fuels, has been reported by Australian researchers.

Apparently America does not possess enough wealth to forgo substances known to damage the environment. If America can not afford to stop using environmentally destructive substances, who can? There are limits to growth - and given a finite world, equity and justice in distribution of wealth is a major issue in potential to achieve environmental sustainability.

Ten years after the ratification of a United Nations treaty on climate change, greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global warming are still on the rise, signaling a "collective failure" of the industrialized world, according to the Washington-based World Resources Institute (WRI), a leading environmental think-tank. "We are quickly moving to the point where the damage will be irreversible," warned Dr. Jonathan Pershing, director of WRI's Climate, Energy and Pollution Program. "In fact, the latest scientific reports indicate that global warming is worsening. Unless we act now, the world will be locked into temperatures that would cause irreversible harm."

Its the air stupid (and the water, forests and oceans) that make the Earth habitable. No air, no economy. Air pollution threatens so many things and is entwined with questions of climate change, energy dependence, poverty and sustainability. Bet the rich kids whose dads pump out the air pollution have great asthma medicines.
