Rising fuel costs should serve as a "wake-up call" for Americans, inciting them to make energy conservation a priority, President Clinton said yesterday at a White House press conference. While Clinton said OPEC's decision to increase oil production is good news for the economy, he added that Americans should adopt energy-efficient products, such as light bulbs and solar panels, and recommended insulating windows (Jonathan Weisman, Baltimore Sun , March 30) He also touted alternative fuel sources and called on Congress to develop a long-term energy plan. Clinton: "We can be much more energy efficient" ( CBS.com , March 30). And Clinton addressed sport utility vehicles, saying, "we're either going to have find a way for them to get better mileage or run on alternative fuels."
